Onward Homes, overseeing Glovers Court—a scheme located in a conservation area in Kirkby—faced the intricate task of upgrading and restoring the building without compromising its historic character.
Specific challenges included:
- Replacing timber windows with more durable UPVC without changing the aesthetic.
- Ensuring the new hardwood combi frames and doors for apartments and communal areas matched the originals in style and substance.
- Repairing and renewing various other aspects of the external structure, including canopies, timber structures, and glazing.
The Solution
With a reputation for blending functionality with authenticity, Frank Rogers devised a comprehensive approach:
- Window Retrofit: Transitioned from the original timber to UPVC windows, ensuring they matched in style and colour.
- Specialist Collaboration: To guarantee the exact replication of original designs, a specialist was employed to manufacture hardwood doors and frames, ensuring an authentic match for both individual apartments and two-story communal frames.
- Holistic Restoration: Other tasks included:
- Replacement of two hardwood canopies in block 1.
- Comprehensive timber repairs on all external blocks.
- Structural repair for the expansive carport.
- Complete glazing renewal for three blocks to introduce double-glazed units.
- External timber painting in a hue matching the existing structure.
The Outcome
The project was executed flawlessly, striking the delicate balance between maintaining historic charm and offering modern functionality.
The renovated features, from windows to canopies, seamlessly blended with the property’s historic essence while providing enhanced durability.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. 100% of the residents who participated in post-project surveys rated their satisfaction as ‘Very Satisfied’, underscoring the success of the restoration and replacement work undertaken at Glovers Court.
