Championing Skills & Collaboration Through the CITB Employer Network

01/01/2025

At Frank Rogers Building Contractors, our commitment to professional development goes far beyond the projects we deliver. It’s about investing in people, nurturing skills, and actively shaping the future of construction across the UK. That’s why we’re proud to play an active role in the CITB Employer Network — an initiative that empowers local employers to take the lead in how training is planned and delivered within their region.

Insights from David Bracegirdle – Construction Director

We recently caught up with our Construction Director, David Bracegirdle, who also serves on the CITB Employer Network Steering Group. In a short video interview, Dave shares his thoughts on the network’s importance, its collaborative power, and how it’s making a real difference to how skills are developed within our sector.

“The Employer Network puts the decision-making power directly in the hands of those who know the industry best — the employers. It’s a brilliant opportunity to shape training that’s relevant, timely, and impactful. Being part of it has helped us at Frank Rogers continuously align our workforce development with real-world needs.”

What Is the CITB Employer Network?

Backed by CITB and delivered in partnership with local industry groups, the Employer Network allows construction employers to access a flexible fund to support local training priorities. Rather than a top-down approach, the network is built around:

  • Regional collaboration – Employers working together to decide what skills are needed

  • Direct funding access – Removing barriers to training by simplifying how employers receive support

  • Tailored training solutions – Focused on the real needs of local businesses and workforces

As an active member of the Liverpool network, we’ve seen firsthand how this approach helps smaller contractors access training they wouldn’t otherwise be able to – while creating stronger links across the supply chain.

Why It Matters

Construction is evolving – with greater focus on sustainability, digital tools, and safety standards. To keep up, we need a workforce that is not only technically skilled, but adaptable and future-ready.

Through the Employer Network, we’re able to:

  • Identify key training gaps across our region

  • Collaborate with peers to fund local training provision

  • Upskill our team and our supply chain in line with industry change

  • Reduce duplication and make training more cost-effective

Most importantly, we’re contributing to a more resilient and future-fit construction sector, where skills investment is driven by employers, not imposed from above.

Building Skills. Building Futures.

Our involvement in the CITB Employer Network reinforces our core values at Frank Rogers — excellence, collaboration, and long-term thinking.

From our apprentices and site operatives to our senior leadership and subcontract partners, we're committed to creating a culture of continuous improvement.

We believe that by taking responsibility for skills at a local level, we can all contribute to a stronger, safer, and more skilled construction workforce.
