Shavington Academy

Frank Rogers Building Contractors were appointed to deliver a comprehensive laboratory refurbishment at Shavington Academy, transforming Science Rooms S5, S6 and S7 into modern, functional and compliant science teaching spaces.

The challenge

The project required the refurbishment to be carried out within a school environment and within a defined summer programme, creating the need for careful planning and close coordination across multiple trades.

The existing laboratories required significant strip-out works before the new facilities could be installed. This included removing existing flooring, wall boards, redundant fittings and associated materials, while ensuring the spaces remained safe and suitable for the progression of the works.

Working within an education environment also meant maintaining clear segregation between working areas and the surrounding school facilities. The site team needed to carefully manage the programme and coordinate different trades to ensure works progressed efficiently while minimising disruption.

Solution

The solution

To overcome these challenges, the project team implemented a carefully coordinated programme of works, with safe working areas and clear segregation maintained throughout the refurbishment.

The initial strip-out was completed across Science Rooms S5, S6 and S7, preparing the spaces for the next phase of installation. First fix electrical works then progressed, including wiring and cable tray installation, alongside first fix plumbing and joinery and enabling works.

The team subsequently progressed with the installation of upgraded mechanical and electrical services, new floor, wall and ceiling finishes, specialist laboratory furniture and equipment, as well as new plumbing and electrical services. Close coordination between the site team, trades, supply chain partners and academy helped maintain progress towards completion and handover.

The outcome

The project was successfully completed, transforming Science Rooms S5, S6 and S7 into modern, functional and compliant science teaching spaces.

The completed refurbishment has provided Shavington Academy with improved science facilities and an enhanced learning environment for students and staff, creating spaces designed to support teaching and learning for years to come.

Delivered on programme through careful planning, effective coordination and a strong focus on safety and quality, the project demonstrates Frank Rogers Building Contractors' ability to successfully deliver refurbishment works within education environments while working to demanding timescales.
