Case studies
Frank Rogers recently completed the transformation of Lyndhurst Children’s Accommodation in Wallasey, a critical project commissioned by Wirral Council and funded by NHS England. The project involved converting a former residential dwelling into a dedicated facility for children and young people with learning difficulties, autism, and mental health challenges. This space is designed to provide safe, structured support for those at risk of hospital admission or in need of short-term crisis care.
Creating a specialist accommodation facility within a former residential property posed several challenges, including:
Ensuring the building met stringent safety and accessibility requirements for vulnerable residents.
Balancing the need for robust, durable finishes with a homely, therapeutic atmosphere.
Coordinating closely with NHS England to ensure the facility met specific healthcare standards.
Managing tight timelines to ensure the project was completed on schedule, given the critical nature of the service.
Frank Rogers developed a comprehensive plan to overcome these challenges, including:
Specialist Design and Fit-Out: Creating four en-suite bedrooms, each designed to provide a safe, calming environment, along with dedicated spaces for support staff, including sleeping quarters, a quiet room, and an office.
Communal Spaces: Installing a shared kitchen, dining area, and extended quiet rooms to foster a supportive, homely setting for residents.
Enhanced Safety and Accessibility: Undertaking extensive external works and repairs to ensure the property was safe, secure, and fully accessible.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Working closely with Wirral Council and NHS England to align project outcomes with the specific needs of the end users, including considerations for mental health and crisis support.
The Lyndhurst Children’s Accommodation project has delivered a vital community resource, providing:
A safe, supportive space for children at risk of hospital admission, allowing them to stay closer to home and their families.
Improved quality of life for young people through carefully designed living and communal areas.
A positive impact on families and carers, providing much-needed respite and crisis support.
Long-term value to the local community through a high-quality, purpose-built facility that meets the highest standards of care and safety.
Frank Rogers is proud to have contributed to this impactful project, supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young people in Wallasey.
